Management reports and a rolling cash forecast built from live ledger data
A done-for-you financial reporting and cash forecasting automation is a set of AI agents that pull actuals from your ledger, bank, billing and CRM, build the monthly management pack, and keep a rolling 13-week cash forecast up to date. They explain variances against budget and the last forecast in plain English and flag cash gaps early. Finance reviews every pack and forecast change before it reaches leadership. BufferSol builds, connects and configures it for you.

Is this you?
CFOs, controllers and FP&A leads at companies where the monthly pack and the cash forecast are rebuilt in Excel from ERP exports, bank portals and sales pipeline reports.
- The management pack goes out well into the following month.
- The cash forecast lives in one analyst's spreadsheet and stalls when they are on holiday.
- A leader asks why a number moved, and finance needs a day to answer.
- Supplier and payroll runs are planned from today's bank balance rather than a forecast.
- Budget-versus-actual commentary is written from scratch every month.
Today vs done for you
The current way, and the new way
What your team does by hand today, and what the automation does instead, step by step.
How it works today
- After close, an analyst exports trial balances and departmental detail from the ERP into a reporting workbook.
- They refresh pivot tables and charts, repair broken links and tie the pack back to the ledger.
- For cash, they download bank balances, the AR aging, the AP schedule and payroll dates, and update a forecast workbook by hand.
- They ask sales for the latest pipeline and guess when customers will actually pay.
- They write variance commentary, send drafts to the CFO and rework them after each round of questions.
What it quietly costs you
- · Decisions on hiring, spend and pricing are made on numbers that are already stale.
- · Key-person risk: when the spreadsheet owner leaves, the forecast logic leaves with them.
- · Analysts spend their time assembling data instead of analyzing it, and broken formulas can reach the leadership team.
How it works done for you
- Agents read actuals from the ERP, bank balances and transactions, open AR and AP, payroll calendars and the CRM pipeline every day.
- They map accounts to your reporting lines and build the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and KPI pages in your own template, in Excel, Google Sheets or Power BI.
- The cash agent rolls the 13-week forecast forward each week, timing receipts from each customer's payment history and payments from scheduled bills, payroll, tax and debt service.
- It compares actuals with budget and the prior forecast, traces the drivers behind each material variance, and drafts commentary that names the customer, vendor or account involved.
- If projected cash drops below the floor you set, it alerts the CFO with the weeks affected and the items causing the gap.
- A finance reviewer edits and approves the pack and any change to forecast assumptions before it is shared.
- Every figure links back to its ledger or bank source, and every assumption change is logged with who made it and when.

Guardrails built in
- Agents read source systems and never post entries or move money.
- Forecast assumptions change only after a named finance approver accepts them.
- Nothing goes to leadership, lenders or the board without a finance review.
- Role-based access means department heads see only their own numbers.
- Every figure keeps a link to its source, and every edit is logged.
Why it hurts today
What teams say about this work
Common complaints from operators, reviewers and industry research.
Gartner warns that errors reaching the monthly or quarterly close can lead management to make decisions on incorrect data or issue inaccurate financial statements.
Small businesses with more late payments report cash-flow problems much more often, which makes the timing of customer receipts the hardest line in any cash forecast.
When payments are matched to invoices late, real-time cash visibility weakens and cash-flow reporting stays distorted until the backlog clears.
Most accounting teams had to reopen the books at least once in a year to fix errors, so numbers shared early often change after leaders have seen them.

Financial Reporting & Cash Forecasting: questions
Straight answers to what clients ask us most.
Ask our teamHow long does it take to go live?
Reporting and forecasting automations are usually live in 3 to 6 weeks. We start from your current pack and forecast workbook, map every line to its source, and rebuild them on live connections. For one month the agents produce the pack and forecast next to your analyst's version, so you can compare them line by line before you switch over.
How much does it cost?
It is quoted after a short scoping call. Cost depends on the number of entities and systems we connect, how many report packs and audiences you have, whether you need a direct method cash forecast, and whether output goes to Excel, Google Sheets or a BI tool. You receive a fixed written quote for design, build, connections, deployment and configuration.
How does the cash forecast decide when customers will pay?
It looks at each customer's actual payment history against terms, recent promises logged by your collections team, and any disputes on open invoices. Large or unusual items can be set by hand. Payments come from scheduled bills, payroll calendars, tax dates, loan schedules and recurring commitments. Each week it compares the forecast with what happened and shows where the assumptions were off.
Will it replace our FP&A analyst?
No. It removes the exporting, pasting and link-fixing that fills most of an analyst's month, and drafts the first version of the commentary. The analyst still owns the assumptions, talks to department heads, runs scenarios and decides what the pack says. Most teams use the time to do the analysis they never had room for.
